Ms. Shirin Ebadi, winner of the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize
Ms. Shirin Ebadi, winner of the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize, addressed a 600-person crowd at the University of Arizona Student Union. Her free public lecture sponsored by the James E. Rogers College of Law, in association with the Dept of Near Eastern Studies, gave attendees a good understanding of current issues at the intersection of religion and governance in the Middle East and throughout the world. After a fifty minute lecture delivered through a Persian translator, Ms. Ebadi answered questions from the audience.

Opening Session of the UN Expert Seminar on Implementation of National Legislation And Jurisprudence Concerning Indigenous Peoples’ Rights.
This event featured Mr. Rodolfo Stavenhagen, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms of Indigenous People.The seminar was organized by the University of Arizona in cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and with the support of the organization Cultural Survival.

Water Law & Policy: A Symposium
This Symposium explores water law and policy critical to the southwest from the perspective of practicing attorneys and engaged academics. It asks questions and supplies answers. Each speaker will identify a particular challenge concerning water supply and water quality and then defend his or her solution to the problem. The Symposium was held at the James E. Rogers College of Law on October 7-8, 2006.

Distinguished Lecture on Innovation & Communication Policy
Kevin Harrang, Deputy General Counsel, Legal and Corporate Affairs (LCA) department of Microsoft Corporation. Topic: Challenges in the Global IT Market: open” versus “closed” systems for consumer products.  The College of Law hosted this lecture, which examined the challenges of different nations’ intellectual property laws and competition regimes for U.S. firms marketing IP-intensive products and services in domestic and foreign markets.
