8:30 AM - 11:45 AM Co-sponsored by the Environmental & Natural Resources Section
12:00 PM - 1:15 PM The Latino Law Student Association will host a panel consisting of Judge Frank Zapata of the United States District Court for the District of Arizona, Judge Javier Chon-Lopez of the Pima County Superior Court, and Judge Garye Vasquez of the Arizona Court of Appeals. Together, they will speak with law students and members of the bar about their careers, how they became judges, their experiences on the bench, and how their Latino background and heritage has shaped their experiences and perspectives. This event is open to all students; food and refreshments will be provided.
12:00 PM - 1:30 PM Our next enrichment speaker is Bill Andreen from University of Alabama Law School, who will be speaking on "OF FABLES AND FEDERALISM: A RE-EXAMINATION OF THE HISTORICAL RATIONALE FOR FEDERAL ENVIRONMENTAL REGULATION." As is our practice, lunch is available at noon, and the talk starts at 12:15pm. RSVP to Carol Ward (crw1@email.arizona.edu) if you will be attending, to get an accurate count for lunch.
4:00 PM - 6:50 PM Speaker: David Schmidtz (Dept. of Philosophy) Title: On Being Overcome by Reason The “Master Seminar” has been held successfully in the past 12 years. It is administratively a graduate course, with registered students, for the Fall 2012, from Cognitive Science, Management and Organizations, Law, Marketing, Linguistics, Psychology and Philosophy. The Master Seminar welcomes auditors, including intermittent ones. Each session will focus on foundational issues, aiming at a highly educated, but largely interdisciplinary, audience. The speakers are expressly invited to introduce their fields quite broadly, in the first and longest part of their talk, and then present state-of-the-art research, in an accessible form, without sacrifice of rigor. A lively discussion usually follows these presentations.
4:00 PM - 7:00 PM A Q&A session with former Arizona Supreme Court Justice Stanley Feldman will follow the screening. |
