As part of our Professional Development program, our office will match each 1L student with an attorney in Tucson to serve as your mentor. Special events with attorneys will be planned to help you become better acquainted with the legal community in Arizona.
In November special workshops "Just for 1L's" will be offered on resume, cover letters and interviewing techniques, and options for your first summer legal job. Our Mock Interview Program with an attorney will help you polish your skills.
Our special Sonoran Desert Public Sector Career Fair (February 2009) is designed in particular for 1L's, providing paid, volunteer and for credit interviews for 150+ legal positions during the summer. You will also interview with law firms for summer clerkships, and judges for summer internships in Phoenix and Tucson.
This year 170+ law firms, corporations, and governmental agencies throughout Arizona and surrounding states will visit our campus to interview students. Here are the timelines for 1L interviewing:
- November - Legal resume, cover letter, and interviewing programs; individual counseling with Career Office
- December - 1L's may begin contacting legal employers; submit applications for summer government honors programs
- January - Mock interviews; submit applications for summer positions with judges, law firms, government agencies, public interest groups
- February & March - On-Campus interviews and job fairs; submit applications for summer government honors programs; summer research assistant positions with law professors; and summer abroad programs
