Immigration Law Clinic
Welcome to the Immigration Law Clinic! This clinic provides students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with immigration law by providing services to immigrants in a variety of settings. We provide three different types of services to the immigrant community in Southern Arizona:
Representation of immigrants detained in Eloy and Florence, Arizona, in their deportation cases.
Our clients have included asylum-seekers, victims of domestic violence, and long-time permanent residents seeking humanitarian waivers of removal. We have represented immigrants from countries including Mexico, Vietnam, Libya, El Salvador, Guatemala, Canada, Cuba, Nepal, Thailand, Cyprus, Iraq, Syria, Cambodia, Laos, Korea, Fiji, Scotland, the Sudan, and Haiti.
Information, advice, and brief services to immigrants without legal representation in Tucson.
This onsite clinic is open on Wednesday evenings by appointment only. Our clients have ranged from legal permanent residents undergoing removal proceedings, many of whom, with some guidance, are able to represent themselves in seeking humanitarian waivers of removal from local immigration judges, to high school students wanting to know if they qualified for legal status. As a result of our services, legal residents with offenses that did not render them deportable have been able to get the cases against them dismissed, people unable to attend immigration hearings due to circumstances beyond their control have been able to undo deportation orders, children without options in their home countries have been able to obtain status here, U.S. citizens have been able to gather evidence to prove their status, people eligible for immigration benefits have been able to complete essential paperwork, and many individuals have learned of their options under U.S. immigration law.
