In his fourth annual report to the General Assembly, which will be presented to the Assembly's Third Committee on 22 October 2012 in New York, the Special Rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples provides a summary of his activities over the past year. The report also discusses the need to harmonize the myriad of activities within the United Nations system that affect indigenous peoples and provides a review of specific UN processes and programs. The Special Rapporteur notes that the United Nations has done important work to promote the rights of indigenous peoples but that greater effort is needed to ensure that all actions within the UN system that affect indigenous peoples are in harmony with international standards, particularly those standards articulated in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Melissa Tatum, Director of the James E. Rogers College of Law's Indigenous Peoples Law & Policy Program, is featured in a Lo Que Pasa article for the CD, "Cath," which she produced to benefit The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's research.

Robert A. Williams, Jr.,  E. Thomas Sullivan Professor of Law and American Indian Studies, will be giving a series of lectures to promote his new book, "Savage Anxieties: The Invention of Western Civilization" (Palgrave Macmillan 2012). The events are open to the public.

Robert A. Williams, Jr., E. Thomas Sullivan Professor of Law and American Indian Studies, is delivering a series of lectures and addresses in Australia during July and August to aboriginal groups on the 20th anniversary of the historic Mabo v. Queensland (1992) High Court decision overturning the doctrine of terra nullius and recognizing Native Title for Australia's indigenous peoples. Professor Williams, whose award winning book, The American Indian in Western Legal Thought:The Discourses of Conquest, was cited and relied upon by the court in Mabo, is pictured here with Colleen Ma'run Wall, Chairperson of the Queensland South Native Title Services Corporation (QSNTS), Graeme Neate, President of Australia's National Native Title Tribunal, and Kevin Smith, Chief Executive Officer of QSNTS.
