Wilson, a 1972 graduate of the James E. Rogers College of Law, started his law career as Vice-President and General Counsel of Combined Communications Corporation, a national media company. From 1976 through 1986, he was engaged in the private practice of law. In 1984, he founded Citadel Associates, a radio broadcasting company that, under his leadership, grew to more than 200 stations across the country. When Citadel Communications was purchased by Forstmann Little and Co. in 2001, Wilson was the third largest station operator in the U.S., and the sale was valued at approximately $2 billon.
Apart from Citadel's financial success and stability in a volatile industry, Larry Wilson has been nationally lauded for the culture of community service shared by Citadel stations and for his professional leadership in professional and community endeavors. He received the National Radio Award in 2001 from the National Association of Broadcasters; the Executive of the Year Award in 2002 from Radio Ink; the Humanitarian Award in 2006 from the Country Radio Broadcasters Association; and other top recognitions in the communications field.
Wilson has remained active at the College of Law, most recently honoring his former professor Arthur Andrews by establishing an endowed professorship with two of his law school classmates. He was recognized with the University of Arizona Alumni Association Distinguished Alumni Award in 1986 and the College's Professional Achievement Award in 2002.
Wilson's visit is sponsored by the Business/Law Exchange and by the University of Arizona Office of Technology Transfer. The Business/Law Exchange was established by Arizona Law, the Eller College of Management, and the McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship to increase knowledge, understanding, and learning opportunities in business and law, and particularly at the intersection of entrepreneurship and law.
