Biographical Information

Hank Shea is a Senior Distinguished Fellow at the University of St. Thomas School of Law in Minneapolis and a Visiting Professor at the James E. Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Hank also is a Fellow at the Holloran Center for Ethical Leadership in the Professions at UST Law (www.stthomas.edu/ethicalleadership). He administers a unique ethics program that he founded which involves joint presentations with white collar offenders, some of whom he prosecuted, at law schools, business schools, colleges, high schools, and other locations. Hank also teaches courses in ethical leadership at UST Law, as well as crime and punishment and white collar crime courses at both locations. He speaks frequently throughout the United States on ethics and how to best prevent and address white collar crime.

Mr. Shea served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota for 20 years, where he prosecuted a wide range of corporate and other economic crimes. During his tenure, the U.S. Attorney’s office collected more than $50 million in restitution, fines and forfeitures from crimes that he prosecuted.

During 2004  2005, Mr. Shea served as an Executive Fellow at the Center for Ethical Business Cultures at the University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business, splitting his time with the U.S. Attorney’s Office. In addition, in the early 1990s, he was a shareholder with the Minneapolis law firm of Leonard Street and Deinard. Hank also served four years of active duty and seven years of reserve duty in the Army’s Office of General Counsel in the Pentagon. He was awarded the Army’s Meritorious Service Medal.

Mr. Shea is the recipient of numerous Department of Justice awards, including Director’s Awards for Superior Performance in 2002 and 2000. In June 2007, Hank received the Minnesota State Bar Association Professional Excellence Award for outstanding efforts to advance the legal profession and the administration of justice.

Between 1987 and 1998, Mr. Shea served on the Board of Directors of the St. Louis Park Emergency Program (STEP) foodshelf, including three years as Board Chair. He also served for four years on the Benilde-St. Margaret Schools Board of Directors, including as its Chair in 2004-2005. He currently serves on the Board of Youth Frontiers, Inc., which provides character formation programs in schools throughout the nation.

Hank graduated with highest honors from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service in 1978 and with honors from Harvard Law School in 1981. He is married to Chris Shea, former Executive Vice President of External Relations for General Mills, Inc. They have four children.
