A Retrospective on Tucson's Desegregation Lawsuit

Barbara AtwoodLaw Professor Barbara Atwood will moderate a panel on the local impact of Brown, including local litigation (Fisher v. Lohr). Tucson Unified School District still operates under a controversial consent decree in that case. Panelists will include: The Hon. William Brammer, Arizona Court of Appeals, formerly represented TUSD in desegregation litigation, Dr. Anna Jolivet, Former TUSD Administrator and community leader Ruben Salter, Jr. and Larry Hammond, attorneys for named plaintiff in TUSD desegregation litigation, Armand Salese, attorney for plaintiffs in TUSD desgregration litigation.

Affirmative Action in Education 2004

Richard RuizThe panel will be moderated by Professor Richard Ruiz from the Department of Language, Reading and Culture at the UA College of Education. Confirmed panelists include: Prof. Gabriel "Jack" Chin, Law Professor, Rogers College of Law; Associate Law Professor Ana Maria Merico-Stephens, Rogers College of Law; Assistant Dean of Admissions Terry Holpert, Rogers College of Law; and Patricia Ann Green, shareholder with Waterfall Economidis, Caldwell, Hanshaw & Villamana, and member of State Bar Committee on Women and Minorities in the Law. Among other affirmative action topics, panelists will comment on last summer’s United States Supreme Court decisions regarding affirmative action in higher education.

Brown v. Board of Education Writing Competition

All 2-L, 3-L, and LL.M. Students, as part of the Law College’s ongoing commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education (1954), the College is sponsoring a student writing competition in the 2004 spring semester. Any current second-year or third-year law student or LL.M. student at the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law is eligible to participate.
