Wireless Access: Connecting Your Laptop to the Internet

Wireless access for Faculty, Staff, Students, Guests and Visitors of the law school is now provided by main campus CCIT (Center for Computing & Information Technology). 

All faculty, staff and students who wish to use the faster UAWiFi must register their NetID for wireless access first before configuring your laptop.  To register your NetID, go to https://netid.arizona.edu/wireless_reg.php.
 
Once your NetID is registered for wireless, you can configure your laptop.  Instructions for configuring your laptop for the UAWiFi can be found at the OSCR website http://oscr.arizona.edu/wireless.  If you are a Windows user, click on the 'Windows Zero Config Wireless Set-up' link. 

If you are a Macintosh user, click on the 'Mac Wireless Set-up' link
 
Campus SSIDs
The UA Wireless System consists of four Service Set Identifiers (SSIDs): UAWiFi, UAGuest, UAPublic, and UAWireless. SSIDs appear in a machine's wireless utility and is a way to group wireless network users based on available specified services. Users will need to select an SSID in order to connect to the UA Wireless System. Below is a description of the four available SSIDs on the UA Wireless System.
  • UAWiFi
    UAWiFi is the new wireless SSID available for University Students, Faculty, and Staff. The use of this SSID requires a NetID, compliance with the NAC, and registration. This SSID provides users with full network bandwidth.
  • UAGuest
    UAGuest is the SSID available for guests of the University who are assigned a temporary login. For example, employers or vendors are considered guests of the University. UAGuest users are routed off the campus network but can still access the Internet with full bandwidth capabilities.
  • UAPublic
    The UAPublic SSID is to be used by people who do not have a NetID or a temporary UA login. This SSID will function on a lower bandwidth and have a limited number of ports available, meaning there are less connections to this SSID. UAPublic users are routed off the campus network and only have access to basic functions, such as viewing the Internet and receiving email.
  • UAWireless
    This SSID is the name of the old campus wireless network. It still remains to provide service to various locations throughout campus until it is replaced by UAWiFi.

Wired LAN

Requirements
Most recent computers will have a built-in Ethernet card and port. If you need to purchase and Ethernet card for your computer, andy currently available Ethernet cards will work on our system.

All cards MAC (physical) addresses must be registered on StudentLink. Logon to StudentLink, click on Registration, then DHCP, then follow the instructions on the DHCP Registration page.

Configuration
No configuration will be required for most computers, as their default settings will work on our system. If you connect to another network, you may have to configure your network settings to obtain an internet address automatically. If you have any difficulty, the Electronic Services techs can help configure your wired network card for you. Just bring your equipment buy during office hours (current semester work hours are posted on the door of 109P in the Law Library).

Dial-Up

The College of Law currently offers free 56k dial-up service via a local number. In order to use the dial-up service you must be registered in the system. You can stop by 109P in order to register for dial-up and to receive configuration instructions.
