Bio
Joining the Law Library of the James E. Rogers College of Law in 1987 as Catalog Librarian, Astrid built upon professional experience in the original cataloging of social science materials and Arizona collection additions at the University of Arizona Library. Further background includes work at McGill's Institute of Islamic Studies Library, teaching English as a second language in a Japanese junior college, and managing a Taos, New Mexico, bookstore. The library sub-specialty of cataloging is in a period of uncertainty driven by the advent of online catalogs and Web-based electronic resources. Astrid is particularly interested in the worldwide library reaction to change, particularly as related to knowledge organization, access and management. She has attended two OCLC-sponsored institutes on knowledge management, an NEDCC School for Scanning, the Guadalajara summer school for Spanish, and the University of Virginia Rare Book School for rare book cataloging. She has supervised five library school interns seeking practical cataloging training and worked on the planning committees for three library organization meetings held in Tucson.
