Gutierrez

Horacio Gutiérrez is Microsoft Corporation’s Vice President and Deputy General Counsel in charge of the company’s worldwide Intellectual Property & Licensing Group, including the patent, trademark, copyright, trade secrets, licensing, IP investments and IP Policy groups. Prior to his current position, Mr. Gutiérrez was based in Paris, France, where he managed Microsoft’s legal department for Europe, Middle East and Africa, overseeing all legal, regulatory and government affairs matters in that region.

The Second Annual Distinguished Lecture on Innovation & Communication Policy

Speaker: Stuart Watt, Vice President Intellectual Property, AMGEN. Inc. Topic: “Patent Reform: A Biotech Perspective on the Sweeping Changes Being Sought by Congress, the Courts and the PTO.” Mr. Watt leads a group of 45 patent attorneys responsible for patent strategy, filing and prosecution of patent applications in the U.S. and foreign countries, patent litigation, and patent licensing. Mr. Watt has actively represented Amgen in patent litigation in the U.S. and various countries around the world.

The Inaugural Distinguished Lecture on Innovation & Communication Policy
Harrang

Kevin Harrang, Deputy General Counsel, Legal and Corporate Affairs (LCA) department of Microsoft Corporation. Topic: Challenges in the Global IT Market: open” versus “closed” systems for consumer products. The College of Law hosted this lecture, which examined the challenges of different nations’ intellectual property laws and competition regimes for U.S. firms marketing IP-intensive products and services in domestic and foreign markets.

Annual Business Law Lecture: University Tech Transfer: Angel Investors’ Point of View: November 14, 2007
Speaker: Luis Villalobos, Founder, Tech Coast Angels. Tech Coast Angels is the largest angel group in the country, with ~270 members in Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, Santa Barbara and Westlake. In the 7 years since its founding, TCA members have invested $55 million of personal capital in 85 Southern California ventures, coupled with $536 million from co-investors. Villalobos has a strong technology background and a proven track record as direct investor in 52 early-stage ventures; with 4 IPOs, 8 mergers, and 23 remaining active.
