DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM:
The Office seeks undergraduate and graduate students (including 1Ls and 2Ls) for approximately 100 unpaid Spring, Summer, and Fall 2009 internships. Internships are full-time, but part-time may be considered. Summer 2008 program dates were May 20 to Aug. 15. Placements are available in the following offices, some of which deal with legal issues: Advance; Cabinet Liaison; White House Counsel; Communications; Correspondence; Domestic Policy Council; Faith-Based and Community Initiatives; Fellows; Intergovernmental Affairs; Legislative Affairs; First Lady’s Office; National Economic Council; Office of Vice President; Political Affairs; Political Liaison; Photo Office; Presidential Personnel; Scheduling; Speechwriting; Strategic Initiatives; Travel Office; USA Freedom Corps; White House Management; White House Personnel; Visitors Office. Beyond experiencing day-to-day operations of the White House, interns will enjoy a speaker series, tours, participation in community service projects, and various White House events.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
The ideal candidate will exhibit strong academic credentials, an interested in public service, solid written and verbal communication skills, a history of community involvement, and strong character and leadership skills. U.S. citizenship is required. Background checks and random drug tests are conducted.
APPLICATION PROCESS:
Submit term-specific White House Internship Application (available at www.whitehouse.gov/intern) which includes request for list of 4 preferred placements, resume, 4 brief narrative essays, and 3 letters of recommendation (send with application packet if possible). Summer 2008 application deadline was Feb. 26, 2008. Submit applications for Fall and Spring on a rolling basis.
