This course studies the rules that govern "original expressions", or works of authoship. We will begin with the history and theoretical justifications of copyright law, then examine the major doctrines. We will discuss the gradual expansion of copyright law in the US, both in case law and in statutory law. We will look at the interplay between law and information and communication technologies, and the interaction between domestic and international law.
