Course Description

This course examines the international system for the protection of human rights. It surveys the norms, institutions and procedures of the major treaty and other human rights regimes, especially those associated with the United Nations and the Organization of American States. Although the course explores the theoretical foundations of human rights, its main focus is on the practical application of human rights norms and procedures to contemporary problems.
