Reommendations
Below is a list of recommended computer specifications developed by Mohyeddin Abdulaziz, Director of Information Technology at the College of Law, for new computer purchases. Please note that the College of Law does not require that students own a computer. The College of Law has 23 Pentium IV 2.8 GHz computers exclusively for law student use located in and around the computer lab in the Law Library. There are 15 other computers with similar features available to students in other areas of the library. However, if you plan to purchase a new computer, we suggest that you purchase a laptop so that you can use it while at school (taking notes, exams, using wireless network, etc.) as well as at home.
The College supports both Windows-based PCs and MacIntosh. Keep in mind, Examsoft, the software students may use for taking exams on a computer, only works with Windows-based machines and Mac Book and Mac Pro where Windows XP has been installed utilizing Boot Camp.
Following are the minimum recommendations for a laptop computer:
1 GB MHz Intel Pentium IV or better (Pentium M or Centrino are are ideal) 512 MB RAM 30 GB Hard Drive One Type II PC Card Slot 56K v.90 modem if using free law school dialup or personal dialup ISP provider 10/100/1000 ethernet card (802.11b/g compliant) AND One Type II PC Card Slot or Internal Wireless CD-ROM, DVD drive Security Kit (with cable and lock) Software: Microsoft Office Student/Teacher Edition Operating System: Windows XP Professional or Windows Media Edition, Windows 7.
