Topic: Regulation of Financial Insitutions
Speakers: Charles K. Whitehead and Simon Lorre
Charles K. Whitehead specializes in the law relating to corporations, financial markets, and strategic transactions. After clerking for the Hon. Ellsworth A. Van Graafeiland, U.S. Court of Appeals (2nd Circuit), Professor Whitehead practiced in the United States, Europe, and Asia as outside counsel and General Counsel of several multinational financial institutions. Before joining Cornell, he was on the faculty of the Boston University School of Law and was a research fellow at Columbia Law School. Professor Whitehead's current scholarship focuses on the financial markets, financial regulation, and corporate governance.
Simon M. Lorne is Vice-Chairman and Chief Legal Officer of Millennium Partners, L.P., a multi-strategy New York-based hedge fund, with primary responsibility for the development, enhancement, and oversight of the internal control environment, as well as preparation for and attention to the evolving regulatory environment, for hedge funds.
Prior to joining Millennium, he was at Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP, Los Angeles, from 1970 to 1993 and again from 1999 to 2004, serving as partner from 1972. Mr. Lorne's private law practice focused on corporate governance issues, particularly special committee and audit committee reviews and examinations and corporate transactions (mergers & acquisitions, corporate finance, etc.) more broadly. He currently serves on the audit committees of two publicly held companies, serving as chair of one of them.
