Biographical Information

Professor Francisco Reyes Villamizar has been an active participant and draftsman of the 1995 and 2008 comprehensive reforms to the Colombian laws of Corporations and Bankruptcy. He designed and implemented the 2008 law that introduced the so-called Simplified Stock Corporation (sociedad por acciones simplificadas or SAS). This new form of business entity has been the most successful experiment in Latin American Company Law in the last decades. In 2010 he acted as the president of the commission appointed by the Government of Colombia for the amendment of the Bankruptcy Law (which in fact occurred in december of that year). He is the author of several books and articles in the fields of Business Associations and Bankruptcy written in English, Spanish and Portuguese. His publications include the two volume Latin American Company Law (with Boris Kozolchyk) (2013).

Mr. Reyes Villamizar has been a Visiting Professor at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center of Louisiana State University, Stetson College of Law, Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México, Universidade Agostinho Neto de Angola, and Universidad Catolica Argentina. He is a member of the International Academy of Commercial and Consumer Law.
