MERIT-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS

Arizona Law awards a significant number of merit-based scholarships each year to entering JD students. Candidates are considered for merit awards as part of the admission process; no separate application is required. For details on these awards, applicants should contact the Admissions office at law-admissions@email.arizona.edu.

PERFORMANCE SCHOLARSHIPS

If you did not receive an Arizona Law scholarship (or if your scholarship is less than $10,000), and you achieve a class rank at or above the 90th percentile (top 10 percent) of your class as calculated at the end of the first year of study, you will be eligible for a $10,000 scholarship award, or an award in the amount necessary to raise an existing scholarship award to $10,000, as applicable, for the second and third years of study.

Please note, due to technical difficulties at the Department of Education pertaining to the implementation of The FAFSA Simplification Act (2021), The University of Arizona is receiving student FAFSA Forms later than previous years. While we anticipate the issues to be resolved by mid-April, the information contained below may vary among students and at varying times. If you have questions about your FAFSA Form please contact our Financial Aid Office.

To apply for most types of aid, including loans, you are required to submit a Free Application Application for Federal Student Aid Form (FAFSA Form).

You MUST submit a FAFSA Form if:

  • You are an applicant for admission or a current student seeking federal loans.
  • You are a student with certain scholarships, but no federal loans.

FAFSA APPLICATION

  • If you are a renewal-eligible FAFSA applicant (you filed the prior year), your application may be pre-filled with certain data from previous years.
  • Students and all FAFSA Contributors are required to use an FSA ID, made up of a username and password, to access certain U.S. Department of Education websites. Your FSA ID is used to confirm your identity when accessing your financial aid information and electronically signing your federal student aid documents. Click here to create your FSA ID.
  • Students and FAFSA Contributors are required to consent to the use of their Federal Tax Information (FTI) from the Internal Revenue Service. If a student or FAFSA Contributor do not consent to the use of FTI, certain Federal Financial Aid may not be available.
  • The University of Arizona’s School Code is 001083.
  • If you have already completed your FAFSA Form without listing The University of Arizona, file an online correction adding The University of Arizona. If there are 20 school codes on your record, any new school codes that you add will replace one or more of the school codes previously added. Rest assured that the school(s) being removed have already received your FAFSA Form information; however, they will no longer receive corrections that are made to your FAFSA Form.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Estimated income and assets for the calendar year, as you may be completing the FAFSA before your federal taxes have been filed. The FAFSA is available online beginning in October for the upcoming academic year.
  • A valid email address.
  • A list of the school codes for the schools that you want to receive FAFSA information. To change schools, you must make a correction to your FAFSA.
  • You are REQUIRED to file corrections to your FAFSA when your Federal Income Tax Return has been amended. The FAFSA form uses tax data from 2 years before i.e the 2024-2025 FAFSA Form utilizes your 2022 Federal Income Tax Return.
  • Parents’ income information is NOT REQUIRED for professional students.

WHEN TO APPLY

  • Applicants for financial assistance may submit their FAFSA Form beginning Jan. 1 for the upcoming academic year.
  • The priority processing date for the upcoming academic year is March 1. In order to meet this deadline, complete your FAFSA by Feb. 14.
  • Your financial aid award letter will be available for review in late June and for available to accept starting in mid July.

FAFSA FOLLOW-UP

  • Once you have completed your FAFSA, the FAFSA Processing System will send you written confirmation in the form of a FAFSA Submission Summary. If you do not receive this report within 3 to 5 days of filing the FAFSA online, contact the Department of Education at 1-800-433-3243.
  • When you receive your FAFSA Submission Summary, review it for accuracy. Make corrections or changes according to the instructions. If the FAFSA Submission Summary is correct, keep it for your records.
  • The university will receive your FAFSA data/information through an electronic process. Based on the information from your FAFSA Form, you will receive a financial aid award letter detailing your aid.
  • Any changes made to the FAFSA Form may create changes in financial aid eligibility and will generate a revised financial aid award letter.
