Before Starting Examsoft

Check the date and time are correct on your machine.

 Set your sound to mute.

Make sure you have AC power to your machine.

Label CD/Disk with Date/Time; Instructor; Course; Exam Number (obtained from FORUMS); If you are using a law school provided computer, also include the computer#

Starting Examsoft

Start SoftTest from desktop (or Start->Programs->SoftTest->SoftTest)

Set Preferences Verify your exam save location is correct in the preferences window. If using a CD, the drive letter should match your CD-ROM drive.

Set time reminder, if you wish

Verify exam file location is filled in. If not, click 'Find exam', select Arizonalaw template file under Templates directory (C:\program files\SoftTest\Templates).

Fill in Exam number (in ID box), Exam name, Course name, and Instructor. Exam Code box will be accessible after the other data is filled in. The exam code will be written on the board. The exam code will be different for EACH exam and is intended to ensure you are following the Academic Honor Code.

Click Begin exam. This will restart your machine in secure mode.

After your machine reboots completely.... If you are using Windows 2000/XP and use password restrictions, login to the same profile you started the program in!

Make sure your disk/CD are in the drive.

When you get to the stop signs....STOP! You may go to your main proctor room to receive your exam questions. Do NOT type 'begin' until your IT proctor has told you to.

During the Exam

If you leave the room, you must leave all materials in the exam room.

You are not given extra time for breaks.

If you have a computer problem, immediately and quietly get the attention of the IT proctor.

It is recommended you perform your Spellcheck at the 10 or 5 min warning. You will not have time once the proctor tells you to STOP and close your exam.

Closing the Exam

 Ensure CD/Disk is in drive

Click the 'Exit Exam' button. The exam file will now get written to the CD/floppy.

If you are a CD user and you get an error message here, skip the following steps and go straight to the section File didn't save on CD below.

Click Exit at the yellow screen.

If you wish to make a backup: (If you are using a floppy, remove the original disk first) Click 'Yes' when prompted with 'If you wish to create a backup floppy disk' and insert another blank disk. Otherwise, click 'No'. Your machine will now reboot back into normal mode.

* Please Note: File Didn't save on CD (CD Users only who had an error in Step 2)
You most likely got this error because you didn't set an alternative save location in the Preferences or your burning software isn't working from within Examsoft. Click the Exit button, and select no to backup. Allow Examsoft to reboot your machine. Once rebooted, login if necessary, Examsoft will prompt you to save to an alternative location. Save the file to the desktop and burn the file directly to CD manually.

Before you leave the room please turn in the following items CLEARLY labelled with your Exam Number!

Examination booklet with the exam questions

 CD/DISK

Notes/blue books (if you have taken multiple sheets worth, make sure your exam # is on each page on the upper right-hand corner)

Good Luck!
