ANNOUNCEMENTS

BLSA will be having another Soul Food Sale!!! It will be Wednesday, November 10 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in the law school lobby. We will be serving chicken, Liberian jollof rice and delicious sides such as macaroni and cheese and greens. We will also have dessert. Come join us for lunch.

BorderLinks Toy Drive. The Immigration Law class recently took a border tour to Nogales through BorderLinks, a border educational organization. The class is now assisting BorderLinks in their annual toy drive. Each December, BorderLinks holds a Holiday Posada party in Nogales, Mexico, for about 1200 kids. It is held at the BorderLinks facility in Nogales called Casa Misericordia Community Center. For many of these kids, the only holiday gift they will receive will be the one they get at the party. They are looking for new or like-new, simple, non-violent toys. There is a drop off box in the main lobby of the law school. It would be very appreciated if you could drop off a toy in the box by December 10. You would be making a child living in Nogales quite happy. Also, if you are interested helping them with cookies - home baked or store bought - you should call Lauren at BorderLinks, 628-8263 (please don't put the cookies in the toy box).

Interested in becoming a VLP Advocate?  The Volunteer Lawyers Program of Pima County is looking for student volunteers to work with clients and assist attorneys in the areas of Domestic Relations, Child Support, and Bankruptcy next semester. Training will be provided. If you would like to get some great pro bono experience, please come to an informational meeting for Spring volunteers on Wednesday, November 17, at 12:15 p.m. in Rm. 139. All students are welcome. For more information contact Lindsay St. John at lindsay.stjohn@law.arizona.edu or Laine Williams Rich at lpwr@email.arizona.edu.

Jenckes Competition. Megan Nielsen and Lance Broberg will represent the College of Law at the annual Jenckes Closing Argument Competition. The competition, a closing arguments competition against ASU, will take place in Rm. 104 at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2004, at the College of Law. All are invited to attend.

November Community Service Board Project. Want a great way to release your pre-finals stress? Come out and volunteer with the SONORAN DESERT WEEDWACKERS! Join other law school members to pull invasive buffle grasses in the Tucson Mountains. These buffle grasses are non-native species that hog water and choke the native plants -- they need to be pulled out!

If you would like to join us, please e-mail Martha Fenn at fenn@law.arizona.edu or sign up on the sheet posted in the law school lobby by November 17.

Spring Internships. Both of the following spring semester internships will be open to 2Ls and 3Ls. They will be available for 2 or 3 units under Independent Study, depending on the number of hours you wanted to do. If you are interested in either of them or have any questions, see or e-mail Andy Silverman at silverman@law.arizona.edu:
