CONSTITUTION DAY CELEBRATION - TODAY! 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. in Room 14. There will be a video presentation of “A Conversation on the Constitution: Judicial Independence” with U.S. Supreme Court Justices Sandra Day O’Connor, Anthony Kennedy, and Stephen G. Breyer, followed by a panel discussion with Arizona State Supreme Court Justices W. Scott Bales and Andrew D. Hurwitz, U.S. District Court Judge Stephen McNamee, and Arizona Representative Stephen Tully, Majority Leader. Reception to follow in the Snell & Wilmer Courtyard. Westlaw Orientation Training will be held the week of October 16th and will follow a similar schedule. Please do your best to attend both sessions, as you will need to know this information on both services for the Spring Legal Research classes.
Student Enrichment Forums. This semester the College of Law will offer a series of Student Enrichment Forums in which professors give lunchtime presentations about areas of interest in their work. Each forum will take place in the Sullivan Room from 12:15 - 1:00 p.m., and pizza and drinks will be provided. Space is limited to 25 students per forum, so sign up early for forums you would like to attend. To sign up, please e-mail Martha Fenn (fenn@law.arizona.edu) with the forums you would like to attend. (Because we are not sure what the response will be, we are asking that for now you sign up for no more than 2 forums.) The schedule is as follows:
8TH ANNUAL “SUPREME COURT HIGHLIGHTS” CLE - On Friday, September 29, 2006, 2:00 - 4:30 p.m,. in Room 146, faculty and distinguished jurists will discuss high profile antitrust, criminal, environmental civil procedure, and first amendment cases from the 2005 - 2006 term. The ACLU will be having its next meeting on Thursday, September 21, at 12:20 p.m. in Room 139. Among other things, we will be discussing the annual essay contest for high school students. See you there!
All law students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend the next NLG (National Lawyers Guild) meeting. It will take place on Thursday, September 21, at 12:20 p.m. in Room 139. Feel free to bring your lunch!
Please mark this very important date on your calendar: Thursday, October 5, 2006. Law school organizations will be hosting an all day teach-in event titled: Guantanamo: How Should We Respond? This event is being co-sponsored by the NLG (National Lawyers Guild), ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union), PILO (Public Interest Law Organization), LSADP (Law Students Against Death Penalty), the Justice Project, and the ACS. It will run from 9:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. The room schedule is as follows: 9:00 - 11:00am: Room 122; 11:15 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.: Room 128; 2:30 - 6:30 p.m.: Room 140. Feel free to come and go as you please.
