Attention 1Ls:  Westlaw Orientation Training will be held the week of October 16th. All sessions meet in the Computer Lab in the library. Training is organized by small sections as indicated below:

Richard Grand Legal Writing Competition. For the sixth year in a row, Tucson attorney Richard Grand is generously sponsoring a legal writing competition, to be held from October 27 to November 6. This competition is only open to students at the Rogers College of Law; all students are eligible to participate. The top five student participants will receive cash prizes of:  First Place - $2000; Second Place - $1000; Third Place - $500; Honorable Mention - $250 each. Brochures were placed in each student’s mailbox earlier this month. There will be two informational sessions:  Thursday, October 19, and Tuesday, October 24, both from 12:20 to 1:00 p.m. in Rountree Hall, room 102. Dean Kay Kavanagh or Professor Lee Tucker will describe the Competition and answer questions. Attendance at one of these two sessions is highly recommended - but not required - for potential participants. A light lunch will be provided.

November Community Service Board Project. Come join the Community Service Board from 5:30 - 7:00 pm on Saturday, November 4, for an ice cream social at Casa de los Ninos. Casa is a local shelter for abused and neglected children. The social will include children ages 3 through 8. To sign up, please e-mail Martha Fenn at fenn@law.arizona.edu or sign up on the sign-up sheet posted in the lobby. All students, faculty and staff are welcome to participate! There is limited space, however, so please sign up early if you would like to join us. All volunteers must be over the age of 16.

The Public Interest Law Organization (PILO) would like to invite all law students to attend the next general meeting on Wednesday, October 18th, @ 12:20 in Room 138. We will be discussing a number of things including upcoming fundraisers, lecture, and community service. Please do not miss out on this meeting! Hope to see you there! Law Students Against the Death Penalty (LSADP) would like to invite all interested students and faculty to attend the upcoming film DEADLINE which will be shown Monday, October 23, at 12:20 in Room 126. The film is approximately 90 minutes along, so come and go as you are able to. After the film, we will have a general meeting for a few minutes to discuss upcoming events for the organization. 9th Circuit Pro Bono Appellate Team does it again! O’Donnell v. Vencor, Inc. (9th Cir., October 10, 2006) Per Curiam Opinion. Congratulations to third-year students Nicholle Harris and Aeryn Heidemann, supervised by Dr. Willie Jordan-Curtis. The Ninth Circuit panel remanded the case to the district court to reevaluate a claim of violation of the Equal Pay Act. Well done Counselors!
