ANNOUNCEMENTS
J. BYRON MCCORMICK LECTURE - Thursday, November 16, at 10:00 a.m. in the Ares
Auditorium. “Should Officials Obey the Law” - Frederick Schauer,
Frank Stanton Professor of the First Amendment, Harvard University, John F.
Kennedy School of Government.
Law Student Organization to be Honored. The College
of Law student ACLU chapter will receive the featured award at the ACLU of
Arizona Southern Chapter annual dinner in Tucson on Saturday, November 18.
The award is in recognition of the law student group's sustained activities
on behalf of civil liberties, particularly in the areas of public education
and providing support to the ACLU of Arizona legal program. Christie Green
and Anna Wright, co-presidents of the law college ACLU, will accept the award
on behalf of the chapter. Congratulations to the ACLU on this well-deserved
honor!
Scholarship Information:
- The Honorable Margaret M. Houghton AWLA Scholarship The James
E. Rogers College of Law is pleased to announce the availability of the Houghton
AWLA Scholarship. The Southern Arizona Chapter of the Arizona Women Lawyers
Association and friends of retired Pima County Superior Court Judge Margaret
Houghton have established an endowment to provide a scholarship in honor of
Judge Houghton, who is a 1976 graduate of the University of Arizona College
of Law. The award will be made to an enrolled second-year law student who is
the parent of a dependent child and who demonstrates financial need. The recipient
will be selected by a five-member committee chaired by Judge Houghton. Applications
are available in Room 118. DEADLINE: Completed applications must be returned
to Room 118 by 5:00 p.m. on November 20, 2006.
- Curtis A. Jennings Scholarship - Deadline Extended The
Phoenix law firm of Jennings, Haug and Cunningham established a scholarship
to honor Curtis A. Jennings, a distinguished attorney and member of the firm
since 1963. The scholarship is designed to assist enrolled second-year law
students who demonstrate financial need and one or more of the following:
academic achievement; ties to Arizona; personal or family military service;
interest in a career with the JAG Corps, with public services organizations,
and/or in civil litigation practice; and community service while in college
and/or law school. Award: $2,500. Applications are available in Room 118.
DEADLINE EXTENDED: Completed applications must be returned to Room 118 by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November
17, 2006.
- Munger Prize for Scholars in International and Business Law - Deadline
Extended The Munger Prize for Scholars in International and
Business Law is awarded annually to a student based upon outstanding
scholarship and enduring achievement in the areas of international and
business law. Enrolled law students and post-graduate students may apply
for consideration for this award, which was made possible through the
generosity of John F. and Roseann Munger, by submitting a letter of application,
a resume, a transcript and two letters of reference to the Financial
Services Office, Room 118 of the College. Prize: $1,000. DEADLINE EXTENDED: Applications are now due January 31, 2007, at 5:00 p.m. The recipient will be chosen by a committee composed of Dean Massaro, Professor Kozolchyk, Professor Gantz, and Mr.
and Mrs. Munger.
