| Prof. Kozolchyk is U.S. Delegate to OAS Law Conference | |||||||
|
Dr. Boris Kozolchyk has been selected by the U.S. Department of State to be the U.S. delegate and expert member to the Organization of American States (OAS) Specialized Conference in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 7-9 for consideration of the topic: Secured Transactions: Electronic Registries Implementation of the Model Inter-American Law on Secured Transactions. Kozolchyk is Evo DeConcini Professor of Law at the James E. Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona and heads the Tucson-based National Law Center for Inter-American Free Trade. Model registry regulations are meant to complement the OAS model law on secured transactions, which also benefited from the contributions of Kozolchyk and the Center. When adopted in Latin America, these regulations on modern electronic registries will help create a regional credit market that will also be interconnected with similar registries in Europe, Asia, and Africa. The credit thus made possible is essential in the effort to reduce poverty by giving potential lenders information that enables them to increase responsible and affordable lending to micro and small businesses.
