SALDF: Blanket and Dog Toy Donation Drive

In honor of National Pit Bull Awareness Month and Pitbulooza SALDF is collecting donations for the local pit bull/dog rescues, including Smiling Dog Rescue and Cold Wet Noses. 

With winter on its way, the two most needed items are blankets and dog toys. These items can be new or used in good condition. All items will be equally dispersed among the rescue groups. 

Donations will be collected through the month of October. A donation drop box is located in the lobby.

PCLP Speaker: Mitigation Specialist Jim Pever

This Wednesday, October 23rd, PCLP is proud to host Jim Pever from the Pima County Public Defender's Office. Mr. Pever is a mitigation specialist who conducts investigations and writes mitigation reports for his office in both capital and non-capital cases. 

Mitigation reports are considered by the court during a defendant's sentencing so the work that Mr. Pever and his colleagues do can have a great effect on a defendant's case. 

We will meet in room 156. Pizza will be served at 12pm.

SBA Trivia Night

Come enjoy a night of competitive trivia and free food as SBA puts on its semi-annual Trivia Night. Prizes will be awarded to the winners, and don't worry it will be strictly non-legal trivia. SBA will be tabling all week so stop by and buy your tickets early. Presale ticket prices are $5 for paid SBA members and $8 for non-members; at the door its $8 for members and $10 for non-members so get em early. The max is 5 members per team. Doors open at 7:30 and questions start at 8:00.

Oral Trial Reform - The Case of Mexico

Over the last two years, the National Law Center for Inter-American Free Trade has been involved in the training of over 3,200 judges, lawyers, and other members of the legal community in Oral Trial Procedure.  

This month join NatLaw and the University of Arizona, College of Law
for a discussion on the current challenges and opportunities within Mexico in light of the recent Commercial and Criminal Trial Reforms and an overview of NatLaw's prior trainings.

7th Annual Soll Lecture with Judge Nancy Gertner

Nancy Gertner, retired federal judge for the District of Massachusetts and a leader in the women's rights movement, will discuss why she believes that courts are undermining the Voting Rights Act. After the lecture, the audience is invited to observe a special ceremony celebrating Arizona's newest practitioners of law, and to join in a reception following the ceremony. IPLP Fall Festival

The IPLP Fall Festival, a carnival with games and activities for the whole family, will be held Saturday, November 9 in conjunction with the Arizona Law Homecoming activities.  The Festival will include a dunk tank (stay tuned for who will be sitting on the “hot” seat), a photobooth, face painting, trivia, and more.  We’ll also have a silent auction.  Tickets for the games are $1, and all proceeds benefit our scholarship fund, so bring your friends and family!  Last year’s festival was lots of fun, and this year’s promises to be even better.  For more information, visit www.law.arizona.edu/depts/iplp/festival
