7th Annual Soll Lecture with Judge Nancy Gertner

Nancy Gertner, retired federal judge for the District of Massachusetts and a leader in the women's right movement, will discuss why she believe that courts are undermining the Civil Rights Act of 1964. After the lecture, the audience is invited to observe a special ceremony celebrating Arizona's newest practioners of law and to join a reception following the ceremony. Wrongful Convictions: Innocence Shining a Light on the Flaws of the Criminal Justice System

This Wednesday, November 13th, the Program in Criminal Law and Policy is proud to host Professor Jason Kreag.

Prof. Kreag  will discuss several wrongful conviction cases, focusing on what we can learn from these miscarriages of justice. 

Prof. Kreag has spent most of his legal representing criminal defendants in post-conviction matters, first as a staff attorney at the Southern Center for Human Rights in Georgia and later as a staff attorney at the Innocence Project in New York. At the Innocence Project, Prof. Kreag represented defendants who had viable claims of innocence.

Prof. Kreag also currently teaches Criminal Law here at the UA College of Law. 

We will meet in Room 156 and pizza will be served at 12pm.

Gene A. Marsh recieved his B.S. and M.S. from Ohio State University and his J.D. from Washington and Lee University. Marsh has focused on collegiate sports work for the past twelve years. he served as the University of Alabama Faculty Athletics Representative to the Southwestern Conference and the NCAA from 1996 through 2003. He served as chair of the University Compliance Committee, The University Committee on Intercollegiate Atheletics, and the NCAA Certification Committee and Self-Study Project. He was a member of the Alabama Athlete Regent Committee.

Marsh has extensive experience in the NCAA infractious process, having served as a member of the NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions from 1999 through 2008. Marsh served as Chair of the Committee on Infractions from 2004-2006. He was also a member of the NCAA Business/Finance Cabinet and the NCAA Ad Hoc committee on Financial Penalties and Forfeitures and currently serves on a NCAA subcommittee reviewing infractious penalties. He was a member of the working Group of the Six Major Athletic conferences and served on the Working Group Subcommittee on Incentive Clauses in Employment Contacts. Marsh has also served on several committees for the Southeastern Conference, including work on the Executive Committee, the Task Force on Compliance and Enforecement, and the Commissioner Search Advisory Committee.

Wills for Heroes Event for UAPD at College of Law on Saturday, Nov. 23rd

The Wills for Heroes Foundation is hosting an event for the UAPD at the College of Law on Saturday, Nov. 23rd, and seeks law student volunteers to serve as witnesses to the creation of estate planning documents.  No training is required.  Students will also have the opportunity to shadow attorneys throughout the day.

There are two shifts: morning (9am-1pm) and afternoon (1pm-5pm).  

All students are welcome to participate.  Email the contact to check shift availability and sign-up.
