SIMON LORNE  -  Simon M. Lorne serves as the Vice Chairman and Chief Legal Officer at Millennium Management, L.L.C., overseeing its compliance, legal, regulatory, and internal audit functions.  Previously, Mr. Lorne served as a Partner at Munger, Tolles & Olson.  In 1996, he became a Managing Director at Salomon Brothers where he served as Global Head of Internal Audit.  From 1993 to 1996, Mr. Lorne was the General Counsel at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.  He is an Independent Director of Teledyne Technologies Inc.

Jessup International Moot Court Competition Info Session

Come learn about the Jessup International Moot Court Competition from the 2013-2014 team and team advisor Professor Julie Ferdon.

The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the largest and most prestigious moot court competition in the world. The competition simulates a fictional dispute between two countries brought before the International Court of Justice. Teams prepare oral and written pleadings arguing both the applicant and respondent positions. Participation on the Jessup Team is a two-semester commitment for which you receive three pass/fail units. Tryouts, which include short written and oral portions, will take place from April 18-26.

Volunteer Lawyers Program - Summer Sign-up Meeting

This summer, the Volunteer Lawyers Program will offer volunteer opportunities at the Self-Service Center Clinic, Domestic Relations Clinic, and Bankruptcy Reaffirmation Clinic.  Interested students can attend the summer sign-up meeting on Wednesday, April 16 in room 135 at 12:15pm.  

Students who are interested in participating should send an email indicating their clinic choice to students@vlparizona.org no later than 5pm on Friday, April 18.

ACS Pints with Professors Reschedule

For those of you unable to attend this event originally scheduled for April 7th, here's your opportunity to come join ACS over at Gentle Ben's on Wednesday April 16th from 5:00pm to around 6:00pm to hear Professor Jane Bambauer discuss her recent work on data as speech, data-driven policing, and the interaction between data and privacy. This is some fascinating and very timely work that everyone can learn something from!

PLUS, ACS will be opening a tab and providing one round of drinks and appetizers for those who attend! What?! Free Drinks? YES!

Local Law Enforcement and Border Patrol Collaboration

James Duff Lyall of the ACLU of Southern Arizona will be presenting on the legal issues raised by this troubling form of cooperation and the ACLU's efforts to document it. A representative from Migra-Patrol Cop-Watch, an advocacy organization working with a network of immigrant families to lead a campaign to push back against racial profiling and local law enforcement participation in the enforcement of federal immigration law, will also present on Migra-Patrol's efforts and explain the devastating effect of these practices on immigrant communities in Tucson. Lunch from Jimmy Johns will be served. We hope to see you there!

 The Running Club and Wellness Week are hosting a 5K on April 26th which starts at the law school and ends on University blvd.  We are supporting Project Fit America and are taking donations of $20 if runners would like to register AND receive a speciality made tank-top or $10 if runners opt to not order a shirt.
