For the first time ever, the UA Law School is hosting the regional round of the National Trial Competition. This is widely considered to be the most prestigious law school mock trial event in the country. The event is co-sponsored by the American College of Trial Lawyers - the most elite trial lawyers in the country.
As the host school, it is our job to supply witnesses for the competition. Witnesses will have to read a short deposition (approximately 5 pages, double spaced). They will then come to the competition and go to a brief orientation where we explain their roles and what to do during the trial. After that, they will meet with a law student to prep for 10 minutes before the trial, followed by testimony. The entire time commitment is no more than 3-4 hours.
As a witness, you will get to meet local attorneys and judges. For those who are 1Ls or 2Ls, it is a great chance to see what our Trial Team does, if you are considering trying out next year. This is your opportunity to come out and help our team as they battle to win a chance to compete in the National Championship.
For those who do not want to be a witness, but still want to help - we also need timekeepers for the rounds.
The times for the rounds are as follows:
Round 1 - February 14th: 5:30pm - 9:00pm
Round 2 - February 15th: 5:30pm - 9:00pm
Round 3 - February 16th: 8:30am - Noon
Round 4 - February 16th: 1:00pm - 4:30pm
We expect the rounds to end sooner than those listed times. Most rounds will only take about 2 hours.
All rounds take place at the Pima County Superior Courthouse.
