This Wednesday, April 9th, the Program in Criminal Law and Policy is proud to host Prof. Hank Shea and Mr. Stephen Weiss who will be debating the proposed lack of prosecutions of Wall Street executives.  

Two Opposing Views on the Lack of Prosecutions of Wall Street Executives Involved in the Recent Financial Crisis


Hank J. Shea is a Senior Distinguished Fellow at the University of St. Thomas School of Law in Minneapolis and a Visiting Professor here at James E. Rogers College of Law. Prof. Shea also teaches courses in ethical leadership at UST Law, as well as crime and punishment and white-collar crime courses at both locations. He speaks frequently throughout the United States on ethics and how to best prevent and address white-collar crime. Prof. Shea served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota for 20 years, where he prosecuted a wide range of corporate and other economic crimes.


Stephen M. Weiss has been a practicing lawyer in the State of Arizona since 1968. He is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of Arizona (1969); The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals (1974); The United States Claims Court (1989) and the United States Supreme Court (1974). Mr. Weiss served as a prosecutor in the Pima County Attorney’s Criminal Division for several years before entering private practice. He emphasizes criminal defense, personal injury, including professional malpractice, and civil rights litigation. Mr. Weiss has extensive litigation experience involving major felonies as both a prosecutor and a defense attorney, and in personal injury cases including medical malpractice and wrongful death.


Our own Dean Marc Miller will be moderating the debate.
