2003 Nobel Peace Prize Winner to Speak at Public LectureShirin Ebadi, 2003 Nobel Peace Prize Winner, will speak at a public lecture sponsored by the College of Law on Tuesday, February 7, 2006, at 6:00 p.m. in the South Ballroom of the UA Student Union. Dr. Ebadi’s lecture is entitled “Islam, Human Rights and Democracy in Iran.”Dr. Ebadi was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2003, wrote the Nobel Committee, “for her efforts for democracy and human rights. She has focused especially on the struggle for the rights of women and children.” An Iranian lawyer and, in the 1970’s, one of that nation’s first female judges, Ebadi campaigns internationally for peaceful solutions to social problems. Dr. Ebadi will deliver her lecture in Persian, with English translation. Her lecture is open to the university and to the public.
