The fifth annual Richard Grand Legal Writing Competition winners were announced Wednesday, January 25, 2006. The winners are:

• Matthew Gray (3L) -- first place -- $2000
• Robert Bernheim (3L) -- second place  -- $1000
• Susan Schwem (1L) -- 3rd place (tie) -- $375
• Amanda Lueders (1L) -- 3rd place (tie) -- $375
• Stephanie Macdonald (1L) -- Honorable Mention -- $250

Mr. Grand, a 1958 graduate of the College of Law and a distinguished litigator, conceived the idea of a writing competition that would emphasize persuasive skills and effective communication. All students at the Rogers College of Law were eligible to enter. Using a legal problem prepared by the faculty at the Rogers College of Law, students  prepared a written legal argument. The form and content of the problem changes from year to year. The students’ writing was judged for accuracy, brevity, clarity, and persuasiveness.
