Justice Bales to Deliver College of Law Convocation Address

Arizona Supreme Court Justice Scott Bales will deliver the 2006 College of Law Convocation address on Saturday, May 13, 2006, at Centennial Hall on the UA campus. The Convocation will begin at 2:00 p.m. and will be followed by a reception for graduates and their family and friends. Justice Bales is a member of the adjunct faculty, member of the College's Board of Visitors, and longtime friend of the College. His life in the law has included private practice, most recently at Lewis & Roca, LLP; government service as Arizona's Solicitor General and as an Assistant U.S. Attorney; and community service on numerous law-related committees and task forces. Justice Bales was a 1983 magna cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School, where he also earned a Master's degree in Economics. He served as a law clerk to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, and also clerked for the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals and the Office of the Solicitor General, U.S. Department of Justice. He is the newest member of Arizona's five-person high court, having been appointed by Governor Janet Napolitano in 2005.
