Constitution Day to be Celebrated at UA

A program commemorating the 219th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution will be held at the James E. Rogers College of Law on Constitution Day, Monday, September 18, 2006. The program will be held in Room 146, from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. and is open to the campus community. There is no charge to attend. The program consists of two parts:

  • Video:  “A Conversation on the Constitution: Judicial Independence”
    This is a video presentation featuring Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, Justice Anthony Kennedy and Justice Stephen Breyer. The program was specifically designed for use in school and community celebration of Constitution Day. The Justices address a variety of issues on the topic of judicial independence.
  • Live panel discussion:“The Rights and Responsibilities of An Independent Judiciary”
    RonNell Andersen Jones, Distinguished Faculty Fellow at the College of Law and a former Supreme Court Clerk, will moderate a panel discussion with:
    • The Honorable W. Scott Bales, Supreme Court of Arizona
    • The Honorable Andrew Hurwitz, Supreme Court of Arizona
    • The Honorable Stephen McNamee, U.S. District Court
    • Representative Stephen Tully, Majority Leader, Arizona House of Representatives

A brief reception will follow in the courtyard. Reservations are not required, but space is limited. The UA Channel is located on Cox, Channel 18 within the City of Tucson; Cox, Channel 7 in Sierra Vista, and Comcast, Channel 76 in the City of Tucson and Oro Valley.
