Arizona Law Students Bring Jenckes Cup Back to College of Law

On Friday,November 14, second year law students Ed Hopkins and Alexx Tracy-Ramirez brought the Jenckes Cup back to Arizona Law by winning the 2008 Jenckes Closing Argument Competition. An annual event between the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law and Arizona Law, the competition is judged by Arizona members of The American College of Trial Lawyers. This year's case was a civil action involving a rear-ends collision between two tractor-trailer trucks on Interstate 40.

Professor Tom Mauet was the team's lead coach; in addition, Ryan Redmon, a National Trial Team coach, Adjunct Professors Brian Laird and Maggie Barton, and the winners' teammates on the National Mock Trial team all helped the winners to victory. Ed and Alexx both received $1000 prizes/scholarships for winning the Jenckes Cup Competition. Burr Udall presented the checks to the winners on behalf of The American College of Trial Lawyers at a social event held at the Doubletree Hotel immediately after the Jenckes Cup Competition. Congratulations to the winners and thanks to everyone who coached them!
