Students Successfully Represent Immigrants through the Immigration Law Clinic

A belated congratulations to Calvin Jones, Laura Belous, Rigel Massaro, and Sohar Quinteros for their excellent and successful representation last semester of two women detained by the Department of Homeland Security at a detention center in Eloy, AZ. Each client had endured over a year of DHS custody. The students were supervised by Immigration Law Clinic Co-Director Nina Rabin. Calvin and Laura convinced an immigration judge that a Vietnamese refugee with a criminal record is confronting her problems and deserves to remain in the U.S. as a legal permanent resident. Rigel and Sohar amassed evidence that their undocumented client had good moral character and had suffered abuse at the hands of her U.S. citizen husband, potentially qualifying her for an immigrant visa. Both women joyfully rejoined their families, including three young U.S. citizen children each, at the end of last semester.
