College News and Events

Six prominent lawyers and a Superior Court judge received recognition for their achievements in the legal profession and their significant service to Arizona Law at the college’s spring convocation on May 16, 2009. Dean Toni Massaro presented Distinguished Alumni Awards to:

• Brenda W. Burman (Class of 1996), Deputy Assistant Secretary for Water and Science at the U.S. Department of the Interior. Ms. Burman previously served as counsel to the Assistant Secretary for Water and Science, as a staff member to a United States Senator, as a private practice natural resources attorney, and as National Park Service Ranger.
• Bradley P. Holland (Class of 1997) a Deputy Pima County Attorney specializing in neighborhood protection prosecutions.
• Darcy R. Renfro (Class of 2000), the Executive Director of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Education Center. She previously worked as the Policy Advisor to Governor Janet Napolitano on economic development and higher education.

Barbara E. Buckley (Class of 1989) an Assemblywoman in the Nevada Legislature, and Judge Lawrence C. Huerta (Class of 1953) could not attend but also received Distinguished Alumni awards.

Distinguished Honorary Alumni awards were presented to Judith E. Leonard, current Vice President for Legal Affairs and General Counsel for the University of Arizona, and Judge Hector E. Campoy, a Pima County Superior Court Judge and community leader.
