Professor Barbara Atwood Honored by Arizona Women Lawyers Association
Professor Barbara Atwood has received the Alice Truman Leadership Award from the Arizona Women Lawyers Association (AWLA), Southern Arizona Chapter. The annual award honors a person who has been both a role model for women lawyers and demonstrated support and encouragement for the advancement of women in the legal profession. Professor Atwood accepted the award at the group’s December 21 luncheon.
The Mary Anne Richey Professor of Law at the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law, Professor Atwood is nationally known for her scholarship, particularly in the field of family law. She has chaired the Family and Juvenile Law Section of the American Association of Law Schools, is a fellow of the American Bar Association, and a member of the International Society for Family Law.
Her leadership within the legal community includes serving on the Arizona Family and Conciliation Courts Board of Directors, the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws, and the Arizona Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission.
Professor Atwood graduated from the College of Law in 1976 and was appointed to the faculty in 1986. She has served as the Associate Dean and on numerous committees for the University of Arizona and the College.
