Arizona Law Firms Build Legacy for Judge John M. Roll
A group of Arizona law firms today announced their support for the John M. Roll Memorial Fund at the University of Arizona’s James E. Rogers College of Law. The firms have made significant donations or pledges to the fund, boosting the total to more than $60,000 for law student scholarships. Other firms across the state and region have plans to add to the effort, coordinated by the group of law firm representatives.
The fund was established by the State Bar of Arizona and the College of Law shortly after Chief Judge Roll’s death, in response to what law Dean Lawrence Ponoroff refers to as an “outpouring of sympathy for John’s family and colleagues, and an expression of their esteem for his integrity and professionalism.”Firms participating in the group effort include, in alphabetical order:

More than 160 individuals and community groups have donated to the fund, including a local middle school, a juror who admired the Judge’s courtroom demeanor, several small businesses, and Judge Roll’s law school classmates. His former law clerks and other government attorneys are also organizing efforts for the Fund.
United States District Court Chief Judge John M. Roll was one of six Tucsonans killed on Saturday, January 8, 2011, while attending Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords' “Congress on Your Corner” event. He was a 1972 graduate of the College of Law, and maintained strong ties with his alma mater.
