Arizona Law Honors Distinguished Alumni at 2011 Convocation

At the College's 96th annual convocation ceremony on May 14, 2011, the Dean and faculty of the College of Law presented the 2011 Convocation awards to two accomplished public servants and alumni:  Dennis Burke ('88) and The Honorable Cindy K. Jorgenson ('77).

Mr Burke is currently the United States Attorney for the District of Arizona. As the U.S. Attorney, he was appointed to serve on the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee (AGAC) which advises the Attorney General on policy, management, and operational issues at the Department of Justice. He was also appointed as the Chair of the AGAC Subcommittee on Border and Immigration Law Enforcement and is a member of two other AGAC Subcommittees, Native American Issues and Civil Rights.

Judge Jorgenson is currently a Judge in the U.S. District Court of Arizona. She worked as a Deputy County Attorney in the Pima County Attorney’s office before working as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona. She later became a Superior Court Judge in Pima County, before being confirmed to the federal bench in 2002.

The graduation address was given by Arizona Supreme Court Justice Scott Bales, while student-elected speakers Tim Bearese and Frances Sjoberg gave brief remarks. Links to video of the convocation can be found at the College of Law home page:
