Prof. Silverman Represents Woman Released After 49 Years in Prison
Prof. Silverman began his representation of Betty Smithey in 1971, 8 years after her conviction for the murder of a child. Ms Smithey, the longest-serving female inmate in the country, was set free yesterday following a grant of clemency by Gov. Brewer in June, and a hearing by the Arizona Board of Executive Clemency.
