This is the 18th year of the Richard Grand Argument Competition. Richard conceived the idea of a competition, which would emphasize jury argumnents. Students present a closing Argument to a jury. The finalists, selected from an initial round, will present their arguments on April 2, 2013.
The top five students will receive cash prizes of : First Place: $2,000 Second Place: $1,000 Third Place: $500 Other finalists: $250
About Richard Grand
Richard Grand began his practice as a deputy county attorney in 1958. Since 1962, his practice has been limited to representing plaintiffs. On 100+ occasions he has obtained either a verdict or settlement in excess of $1 million.
In 1972, Richard received a jury verdict of $3.5 million, which was the largest in the United States for a single injury. Wry v. Dial 18 Ariz. App. 503 (1972).

Richard Grand was honored by the University of Arizona. On November 8, 2002, Richard was given the Professional Achievement Award. This award is given to a person who has attained prominence in his or her field. He was the twelfth person to receive this prestigious award. Richard also received the 2010 Distinguished Alumni Award.
In 1972, Richard Grand founded the Inner Circle of Advocates, which is limited to 100 U.S. lawyers who have completed at least 50 personal injury trials and have at least three verdicts in excess of $1 million for compensatory damages.
Marcia and Richard Grand are the 2011 Alumnus of the Year.
