A graduate from the Rogers College of Law, Marina has been with the Indigenous Peoples Law & Policy (IPLP) Program since the summer of 2001. During law school she worked with Professor S. James Anaya as a research assistant and a member of the implementation team of Awas Tingni vs. Nicaragua, a recent indigenous land rights case decided by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. Before entering law school, Marina worked in the field of public health and has lived and worked with indigenous communities in East Africa and Central America. In her prior role as Research Fellow with the IPLP Program, Marina was part of the legal team that represents Maya communities in the South of Belize in the defense of their traditional lands, resource and cultural rights. Marina is currently working on a number of active cases and projects related to the defense of traditional land, resources and cultural rights, including the representation of Maya communities in the southern region of Belize, and the U.S. based indigenous groups of the Western Shoshone and the Chiricauhua Apache.  Marina has recently published an article entitled The International Human Right to Culture: Reclamation of the Cultural Identities of Indigenous Peoples Under International Law, 8 Chapman Law Review 201 (2005).
