Kim Ortiz is the Chief Counsel of the Arizona Attorney General's Criminal Division Border Crimes Section in Tucson. A 20-year veteran, Ms. Ortiz is a career prosecutor who has specialized in complex economic fraud, public corruption, illegal enterprise, wiretapping, and anti-racketeering cases for the Attorney General's Criminal Division since 1999. Before she became an Assistant Attorney General, Ms. Ortiz spent six years prosecuting on the U.S./Mexico border in Nogales, Arizona, supervising the Drug Enforcement Unit of the H.I.D.T.A. Task Force for the Santa Cruz County Attorney's Office. Ms. Ortiz currently sits on both the Wiretap and Ethics Committees for the Attorney General's Office and has been recognized on numerous occasions by law enforcement for her substantial contributions in investigations and prosecutions. She also received the Victim Advocacy Award from the Attorney General in 2005 and 2103, and was lead counsel for the Outstanding Trial Team in 2008. Ms. Ortiz received her J.D. from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law, where she teaches Sentencing Law and supervises the AG Criminal Prosecutions Clinical Program, and she served as the Research Editor of the Arizona Law Review, where her Note was published in Volume 35:1 in the spring of 1993. She also received her undergraduate B.A. from Columbia University.
