University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law Associate Clinical Professor Sylvia Lett has been selected as the inaugural recipient of the Faculty Advocate Award from the National Association of Law Student Affairs Professionals (NALSAP).

The national award recognizes an outstanding professor who demonstrates exceptional partnership and collaboration between faculty and staff to foster a positive and supportive environment for students. Only one faculty member is selected each year from among the association’s member law schools, making this a prestigious honor both for Lett and the Arizona Law community, shining a spotlight on the College of Law’s commitment to collaborative student support and community building.

Lett was nominated for her ongoing commitment to student support and engagement. In addition to teaching, she serves as faculty advisor to both the Black Law Students Association and the Law Women’s Association and supports students across the JD, LLM, and Foreign Diplomat Training programs.

“We are incredibly proud to see Professor Lett recognized for what so many of us at Arizona Law already know—her unwavering dedication to our students and the greater law school community,” said Chris Gast, senior director of Student Resources, who nominated Lett for the award and accepted the award on her behalf.

Since 2005, Lett has taught various legal writing courses and an introduction to U.S. law course to international students at Arizona Law. Prior to joining the College of Law faculty, she served 12 years as an Assistant Federal Public Defender in the Capital Habeas Unit of the Arizona Federal Public Defender's Office, where she represented death row inmates in their federal habeas appeals.  She has also worked as a civil litigator in Manhattan and Phoenix. Professor Lett is a graduate of Harvard College and New York University Law School. She clerked for the Hon. Barry G. Silverman of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the Hon. Susan A. Ehrlich on the Arizona Court of Appeals.
